Our History

Benefiting the community since 1998.

Bridging the Gap (Glasgow) was established in 1998 to provide opportunities for individuals to come together, overcome assumptions and divisions, build cohesion, for the benefit of both direct participants and the wider community. The nature of our work, like the world around us, constantly had to adapt to and embrace new ideas, projects and partnerships.

Part of our initial work was schools-based, dealing with issues of isolation, sectarianism, and concerns related to the transitioning between primary and secondary school.

In the early 2000s we responded to the need to support large numbers of asylum seekers, providing not only practical support but a nurturing space where community connections and friendships could be formed.

Recognising that food can be a good way to bring people together, we previously held the Come Dine with Us in the Gorbals community and a community baking initiative called High Rise Bakers. Whilst providing more practical support of an emergency food cupboard for those who unexpectedly found themselves in a position of food insecurity.
